DTE Outage Map : Michigan Power Outage Map

The National Weather Service issued several thunderstorm warnings and watches in Southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties. Heat advisories were also in place for several counties until 10 p.m. on Tuesday. NWS predicted heat indices climbing to 100-plus degrees as high temperatures reached the 90s.

In response to the heat, the Detroit Public Schools Community District released students early on the first two days of the school year.

When thinking about weather-related DTE power outages, heavy snow, ice, thunderstorms, and strong winds may come to mind. However, extreme heat also contributes to DTE power outages as increased demand for electricity can strain the grid. Tuesday will bring another steamy day with highs in the lower to mid-90s, with "feels like" temperatures reaching the mid to upper 90s, potentially closer to 100. This hot and humid trend is expected to continue through the rest of the workweek, with daily storm chances and highs in the 90s extending into the weekend.

As of 3:00 p.m., just over 3,500 people were without power out of DTE's 2.3 million customers. DTE services much of Southeast Michigan and tracks outages throughout the area using the DTE outage map. On the company’s website, the DTE outage map categorizes customers using different colors and shapes.

For example, a blue oval indicates ‘multiple’ customers, a purple triangle represents less than 100, a blue star signifies 101-500, a green square denotes 501-1,500, an orange icon with two lines indicates 1,501-2,500, and a red diamond represents over 2,500 customers without power. This system helps identify specific areas affected by DTE power outages.

If your home falls within one of these grids on the DTE outage map, you can click on it to see exactly how many customers are without power, when the outage occurred, when it’s expected to be restored, and what caused the damage.

Beyond the heat causing a steep draw on the electric grid, it can also cause power lines to sag, which may lead to fires and other significant issues. When DTE power outages occur, it's crucial to be prepared.

The DTE Outage Center provides real-time information, including the percentage of customers without power, the number of customers affected, current outages, and the number of crews working to restore power. The outage center also offers resources to contact police and fire departments and a tool to check if your home or business is already part of an outage.

Stay at least 20 feet away from downed power lines, use caution near metal fences, avoid crossing areas marked with yellow barrier tape, and never drive over downed lines.
